2022 Special Municipal Election

The Town of Windsor will hold a Special Municipal Election on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, to fill one (1) at-large Council seat vacated by the selection of Sam Salmon to the At-large Mayor seat. The remaining term expires December 2022. The Town Council adopted Resolution No. 3690-21 Calling the Special Municipal Election on August 4, 2021.

Note that since this special election is to fill a vacated seat, there are no incumbents and therefore, there will be no extension of the nomination period. If no one or only one person is nominated for an elected office (or, in the case of an office to be elected at-large, the number of persons nominated does not exceed the number of seats to be filled), appointment to the elective office may be made as prescribed by Elections Code §10229.

Nomination Period

The Nomination Period begins on Monday, December 20, 2021, and closes on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. 

Official nomination petitions for eligible candidates desiring to file for the above office(s), are obtained from the Office of the Town Clerk, 9291 Old Redwood Highway., Bldg. 400, Windsor, by appointment only, Monday - Thursday during the nomination period. Town offices are closed Fridays. The Friday exception is January 14, 2022, the last day to file, the Town Clerk's Office will be open on this day only for processing of nomination papers. Please note, Town Hall offices have a scheduled closure in December and will be closed the week of December 20, 2021 (December 20, 2021 - December 23, 2021).

There is no fee to pull or file the nomination papers. Candidates who choose to publish a candidate statement (English Only or English and Spanish) will be required to pay the fee for printing of the statement into the ballot guide. This cost is estimated up to $576.00. The Town Council adopted Resolution No. 3691-21 establishing the cost of candidates' statements filed for printing into the Ballot Guide at the candidate's expense on August 4, 2021.

The Town Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk are available to issue and accept nomination papers by appointment only during the nomination period.
