The Walbridge fire has not grown significantly in the past five days and no longer poses a threat to Windsor. The fire is currently 55,353 acres in size and 25% contained. It continues to burn with low intensity, creeping and backing down slopes. Most of the needed control lines to contain and manage the fire are now in place, and firefighting operations are focused on “mop-up” and control activities.
The Town of Windsor would like to express its gratitude to our firefighters for their response and around-the-clock work to gain control of the fire and protect our community. We also would like to thank our residents for remaining alert to this situation and for taking the necessary steps to be prepared. Given our recent history with fires, we understand that any fire close to our town is cause for alarm and can be a stressful event. We hope our efforts to keep you informed on the status of the fire and to provide resources on preparedness were helpful. Together, being prepared at home and ready to support one another during an emergency is what makes us strong.
